A Life of Music

I have been a part-time singer and keyboardist in more than a dozen groups spanning 60-plus years centered in Greenbelt, MD ten miles outside of Washington, DC.  I started in a teen group in 1964 called The Rockin' Rejects, which later morphed into Donnie & The Diablos.  Other ventures included The Fifth Edition, The Talents, a short stint in Venus and the Flytraps, Chi Square, Electric Fantasy, Quinn, Can-Do, Harvest, RickVanMichael, and Jimmy Moore & The Rangers.

After a 16-year hiatus from band commitments (I continued playing solo occasionally and recording), I resumed band involvement with the The Good Guys from Greenbelt in 1999.  From 2015 through 2025 I helped to form and performed in The Relics, an oldies band constituted of friends from Greenbelt Community Church.  I continue my solo work and writing as well as jamming at The Old Bowie Towne Grille (now closed) and at The New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt.   

The Album below, RR Band Retrospective, provides two-dozen songs recorded by four of the bands listed.   You can play full versions of each song by clicking on the “play” symbol in front of it.  The artists who released the versions we have covered are shown after each title. Click “INFO” to see the lead singer in each selection directly under the title and my specific comments.  

On the ‘Recordings’ page (flash menu under ‘Solo-Home Studio’) you will find cover songs that I have “re-interpreted solo” to some degree.  A few of the songs that I have written are included, also sung and played by me.  My writing tells stories and makes statements without emphasis on 'hooks' or repeated phrases.
